The gun-free zone was way broken, as in pretending to stop the Potomac River with a barbed wire fence kind of broken. There are laws prohibiting the sale of drugs in D.C., yet the District is known as an easy city in which to get drugs. It is obviously an easy city in which criminals get all types of guns. With millions of dollars of evidence in their face, the DC government perpetuates the fantasy that gun prohibition disarms criminals. They continue to claim that law-abiding D.C. citizens are the source of guns used in criminal activity, and that D.C. citizens are unnecessary violent when they armed for self-defense. I think city hall has been trying out the evidence if they expect us to believe that nonsense. Read the news;
Outlaws Have Guns While Honest Citizens are Disarmed
"Among weapons confiscated from criminals were automatic rifles and handguns with silencers. A total of 161 firearms were seized. One suspect had offered to sell undercover agents hand grenades and a rocket launcher."
70 Suspects Arrested in Drugs, Firearms Investigation (with video)
"The operation.. netted about 80 pounds of methamphetamine, 9.6 kilograms of cocaine, 1.25 gallons of PCP, 23.5 pounds of marijuana, heroin, MDMA/ecstasy and 161 firearms, including 29 assault weapons."
D.C. police arrest 70 in yearlong drug, gun sting. Effort helped cl...
"The sting, which ran from November 2010 through November 2011, was aimed at catching high-level drug and gun dealers who were channeling their supplies from as far away as Atlanta.."
So after a year, the DC police reached down and pulled 7 million dollars worth of drugs and guns out of the river that flow though the city. I don't think they left a hole in that river. They justified their jobs, and little more. There is no evidence that DC is now seven million dollars safer and drug free. By all accounts, they could reach back into the drug trade and pull millions of dollars out for week after week and month after month. I don't think they even left a ripple in the hundred billion dollar flow of drugs.
D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and Chief of Police Cathy Lanier say you can't be trusted with firearms because citizens lack judgement and training. I have to question their judgment on that.

It's funny about that age old argument of citizens vs police when it comes to judgement and training. I say funny because in the recent DOJ report 10% of Police shootings were them shooting the wrong or innocent person, while only 2% of the lawful citizen shootings were the wrong or innocent people. Sounds to me like the untrained citizen has better judgement than the trained police. Makes you wonder what all that training is they go through doesn't it?
So far Police have no legal obligation to protect you or I from wrong doing, they can legally lie to you to fool you into incriminating you while you cannot legally lie to them, they have no obligation to know the law they uphold while for you and I ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Seems to me the only thing police are good for are revenue generation and milking our tax dollars.
